Hurricane Harvey brought not only destruction, but confusion in its wake. While Lone Star College administrators are doing all they can to keep students and faculty informed, many still have unanswered questions. We asked for your questions on Twitter and Instagram. Here’s what we know so far:

Q: When will the classes start?

A: Classes will officially resume September 25, says Dr. Katherine Persson.

Q: What will happen to the classes I’m enrolled in?

A: According to Head, LSC-Kingwood is looking at alternative class options, including 6, 8, 12, and 14 week courses, as well as hybrid or online classes.

Q: What buildings have water damage?

A: Seven of the nine buildings were flooded including Classroom Building A, Health Science Building, Fitness Center, Classroom Building B, Library, and Performing Arts Center, which can be identified in the following video taken by Drama Professor, Eric Skiles.

Q: Are the main roads to the campus open?

A: Yes, Sorters Road, Northpark Drive, and Kingwood Drive are all currently open. However, use Drive Texas to check your route, as there are still road closures and flooding in areas served by LSC-Kingwood.

Q: How available are books for sale/rent from the bookstore?

A: Currently the campus is shut down. All services including the bookstore are unavailable, according to LSC employee Taylor Anderson.

Q: If I am unable to attend the rest of the semester, can I get a refund?

A: Yes, if the course is dropped before Tuesday, September 5. Some students who dropped courses may not have received a full refund and Lone Star College is working to correct this. After the semester begins, students have 23 calendar days to drop a course for a 70% refund, per an e-mail from Chancellor Head.

Q: Will online classes begin Tuesday with the rest of the Lone Star System, or will they begin when on campus classes resume?

A: Professor of mathematics, Richard Smalley said that online classes from other campuses, such as North Harris or Montgomery, will officially begin Tuesday. The start of online classes from LSC-Kingwood is still to be determined.

Q: Is there assistance specific to Harvey victims?

A: Steven Head, in an email to students, provided an Emergency Assistance Funds for qualifying students.
