After a long wait, Birds of Prey is finally here. Fans of the DC universe have been awaiting this film since Suicide Squad was released in 2016. The acting was good, and the film was a solid attempt to help Warner Bros. Entertainment but is not a big hit when compared to other movies. The movie was given a budget of 97.1 million USD and only made 33.5 million opening weekend was given a budget of 97.1 million USD and only made 33.5 million opening weekend.
Birds of Prey had a very unpredictable plot and was often thought of as messy and as organized. Which, don’t get me wrong, there are many scenes that I personally found enjoyable and funny. I wish the director, Cathy Yan, focused less on fighting scenes and special effects because the plot is lost in them.
The film brought five new female characters together, one of them a child, bringing a white who the female side of the DC universe. At the beginning of the film, it is very unclear where everything is going on besides Margot Robbie’s character Harley Quinn being in a spiral after her break up with the Joker. The whole point of this movie seems to be the events after Harley Quinn tells all of Gotham city she is single.
Without the Joker’s production, Harley does not understand how many people want to kill her until she runs a truck into a chemical plant. After this happens Harley bonds with Cassandra Cain, played by Ella Jay Basco. Cassandra is a child who steals a diamond that plays a big importance in the plot of the movie and a lot of people are after her after the child swallows the diamond.
The movie is not as bad as DC’s Suicide Squad in my opinion, but I believe it could’ve been a little bit better written just because of the awaited time fans were anticipating the film. I was appreciative of Margot Robbie’s character Harley Quinn having more clothing on this time in the actress seeming to be more comfortable in her costume. In comparison, her costume for Suicide Squad was a very big complex because the actor was not comfortable.
After watching the film, I believe the movie was not terrible, but I also wish things could’ve been done a little better. I do highly recommend this movie if people are a fan of the DC universe.
